In less than a decade, Netwise Hosting has grown from a simple dream into one of the UK's most applauded multi award-winning data centre operators.
It's fair to say that we are quickly becoming one of the capital's most talked about data centre operators. Officially founded in 2009 by then 19 year old Matthew Butt, in just 8 short years the company has moved from a humble shared office space to designing, building and operating two private data centres in the London area.
Every story has its beginning. As founding members of the Netwise Hosting team, Matthew Butt and Matt Seaton first met in high school. They have worked together on various projects throughout the years, most of which have centred around technology in some form or another, before settling more firmly on the concept of hosting.
The genesis moment for Netwise came in the summer months of 2005, when the pair decided to give game server hosting a try. This started life as a small after-school passion project, with no serious ambition at the time.
Matthew sourced 12 old IBM servers from a clearance company in London, and set about creating a small hosting platform in the loft of his parents home in Surrey.

Milestone The conceptual birth of our passion for hosting services.
It was always apparent that our first makeshift rooftop location would never work commercially. In 2007, plans were drafted that would see us move to our own private premises in Raynes Park.
Here, we would build out the organisations first serious hosting platform, which would allow for the development of credible business hosting services and enable the company to grow into a small but fully-featured hosting provider.
Milestone Our first private premises and self-built comms room.
We became a limited company in 2009, and migrated all operations to a better suited location in Wallington, South London. In a uniquely engineered deal, we took control of an existing data centre in a large serviced office complex.
This would be the beginnings of an era of real traction for Netwise, developing the brand, the service set, and building a solid base of high-quality enterprise customers.

Milestone The operation of our first fully-featured data centre space.
Lack of end-to-end control over service delivery became a concern for future growth - we either had to dramatically change direction, or look to build our own private facility from the ground up.
After an initial build phase of around six months, the new site was in a position to service its first customers. This would be the first time we found ourselves able to deliver enterprise-grade colocation services from a top-class facility that we had total end to end control over.
Milestone The design, build and operation of our first private, bespoke data centre.
Having our own private data centre allowed us to enjoy a period of rapid growth and expansion. Our growth reached 300% year on year during this period.
We reached near capacity at London South by mid-2013, which allowed us to explore new data centre options in Central London.
In January 2014, works on our new London Central facility began, which would house our new data centre and company headquarters. The new site was planned for completion in 2015.
By May 2015, the new flagship data centre was ready to receive our existing customer base in a soft opening of the facility. The site was publicly launched to the press in February 2016.London Central: Learn More
Milestone The design, build and operation of our second private, bespoke data centre.
Since opening our new London Central data centre, we have built out our edge network in various key data centres in London, including Telehouse North and Harbour Exchange. This has expanded operations and enriched our service set, which is fantastic news for our customers moving forwards.Network: Learn More
Our new facility is filling up quickly. We are already in the process of looking at additional sites in strategic locations both inside of London and further up the country.
